Who the heck am I? My name is Amanda and I am a writer based out of New York. I graduated from George Mason University with my MFA in Creative Writing in 2018 where I finished the novel I am currently querying (click the "Projects" button below to find out more). Storytelling has always been a pivotal point in my life. It has allowed me to connect and communicate with people in so many ways, which is probably why I'm so driven to help writers develop and promote their work, as well as expand their knowledge of the publishing industry. Over the last five years I have worked with Stillhouse Press, So to Speak Literary Journal, Shreve Williams Public Relations, and St. Martin's Press.
Currently, I'm a marketing and editorial assistant at Bantam Tools and a contributor at LitReactor. |
What do I like to write? Snarky, speculative, fantastical fiction adventures. I love plots with momentum and adore crafting all sorts of twists, turns, and action sequences. But while I tend to write more plot driven narratives, I'm constantly working to add depth to my characters. I'm a firm believer that a story is only as complex as its characters. I also tend to write about families and the odd challenges that come with trying to keep them together, which probably has something to do with my own whacky family...
What do I prefer to read? When it comes to fiction I will read just about anything - if you've been browsing The Shelf Life section of this blog you'll understand what I mean. But when it comes to nonfiction, I prefer business, pop-culture, and technology/maker-space related books. The narratives that light my soul on fire are ones that are fast-paced and have characters with grit. Some of my favorite writers are Ben Percy, Idra Novey, Amber Sparks, Hugh Howey, Isaac Marion, Karen Russell, and Dickens - yes, that old snark.
